Re: Lost Whatbirders
I'd been missing it! Especially when I had ID mysteries or when my father-in-law sent me a picture of a nearly all white Bald Eagle. Clear back in the beginning I'd found an article/post that I thought might have a solution to the problem but I had no way to contact anyone. I managed to track down ...

Bird behavior
I thought it would be fun to have a thread for reporting interesting bird behavior we observe.
This morning I watched a Great-Tailed Grackle catch and eat a small snake, maybe 4 or 5" long. He didn't try to wash it, which I have observed them to do as well. But it's the dry season now, and while I ...

I do think it's a bit strange that the platform doesn't offer reaction options, given how ubiquitous they are these days.Greyhawk wrote: Mon Jan 12, 2026 7:01 pm
I'll definitely look into an extension that at least allows users to "thank" a post.

Re: Finding the old group.
The old forum was run on Invision. But it seems like this one will suit our needs!
I must confess I'm missing the ability to give 'Likes' more than I expected. Sure, we could reply with smilies but that takes up a lot of space and give the impression new content has been posted.
I miss that ...

Re: Finding the old group.
Good old phpBB, which used to power every self-hosted forum :D
Maybe I should have looked into a more modern platform, or specifically found out what drove the previous forum, but I already had some familiarity with phpBB, which I thought might reduce the learning curve and knew my host had a ...

Re: Photo Species of the Week
I can use Flickr or Google Photos.
I drag the photo from my computer to the edit window. Then options appear at the bottom, one is "place inline" and the other is something like "delete file"; I click on place inline and the photo appears when you submit the post. An option maybe until you ...

Re: Rare Birds!
A rather strange lifer for me from last month. I had seen a lot of these when I lived in the US but I wasn't a birder then. They have only moved to northern Guatemala in recent years, and still remain a very exciting rare sighting. Everyone managed to see them during the Christmas Bird Count ...

Re: Photos and avatars
I'm sure changing the size of the image did change the file size, but if it only got to 31 kb it must be a PNG or BMP, JPG's have smaller file size.
In any case, I raised the file size limit so your avatar should be okay now.
Thank you! Success. Now to see if I can upload photos to threads ...
