A rather strange lifer for me from last month. I had seen a lot of these when I lived in the US but I wasn't a birder then. They have only moved to northern Guatemala in recent years, and still remain a very exciting rare sighting. Everyone managed to see them during the Christmas Bird Count activity at the Estación Biológico Las Guacamayas en El Petén.

Had a pretty clear-cut Celata Orange-crowned Warbler the other day. Crazy how different they can look from our typical OCWA on the Pacific coast.

In 1977, my brother photographed the bird that is, to this day, the only accepted record of the species in Louisiana. (Many saw it before he did.)

Owen Wilson's character in The Big Year "just couldn't seem to nail that sucker".

That's awesome!!! How many Kansas records are there? Can't imagine that there are very many, given how quickly they get rare north of the more tropical areas.

Don't know the current count, but apparently the first was in August, 2011.
