Jackie and Shadow, who have been nesting in a tree at Big Bear Lake for several years have laid two eggs recently.

Last year on the old forum we followed them as they successfully fledged two young.

To repeat the story I had told on the old forum, a couple of years ago somebody posted a picture on some random image board of one of the eagles on the nest with a light dusting of snow over it with a caption to the effect of "looks like that's about it for the eagle". At first I thought, "Wow, that's sad." but then I thought "Wait a second. They're bald eagles. They live in snowy climates at the top of a tree with no shelter. That's probably just life as they know it."

Sure enough, when snow is heavy while they are incubating they will have a deep pile of snow over them They call it an "eagloo". (People call it that, not the eagles.)

They had a few seasons where none of their eggs hatched. Nobody knows why. So it was sort of exciting last year when they hatched three eggs and successfully fledged two chicks. (One died.) As far as anybody knows the young are off living independently now.
