Hawk

Need help identifying a bird? Please post your question here and if possible include a photo. Also let us know where and when you saw the bird. Other things that help are listing any field marks that stood out, behavioral information like how it walked, hopped or flew. This Forum is just for North American birds.

I saw this bird yesterday over the Orange Reservoir in Essex County, NJ. It was very far away.. is there enough here to identify?

If I am seeing what I think I am seeing, patagial markings and belly band, I'd call this a Red-tailed Hawk.

I can't tell how much of those markings are shadows, especially the patagials.
