Unidentified passerine

Need help identifying a bird? Please post your question here and if possible include a photo. Also let us know where and when you saw the bird. Other things that help are listing any field marks that stood out, behavioral information like how it walked, hopped or flew. This Forum is just for North American birds.

Unidentified passerine

Post by TexasCobra »

:? I am fairly competent at identifying the usual avian visitors to my backyard. This one has me stumped.

That is one possible identification. I will keep it in mind. I often see the Woodhouse's Scrub Jay in my backyard during the summer months. This would be an unusually early arrival for that species. On the other hand, this year's February weather (although variable) has been unusually warm and I have spent more hours on the balcony than is my custom. ;)

Do you agree that is what it looks like, or have another idea?

Another pic from later in the day and taken from a shorter distance provides more detail. :D
